FAQ

How much water does the association have?
360″ of Highland which is 1 share of Highland
360″ of Supply which is 8 shares of Supply

How much water is available during a year?
Each year and allocation is set based on snowfall in the watershed, this might be from 0-100% of the total water supply. Highland and Supply might have different allocations.
A 50% allocation of Highland means 180″ of water is available in total

How much water do I get in my base allocation?
Each property is fed by one ditch company based on its location within association boundaries.
1 Hohnholz share of Highland is about 1.8″
1 Hohnholz share of Supply is about 2.8″

When are dues required?
Payment as user or non-user is required by May 1st of each year, prior to water running. Payment is required even if not using water, this maintains our access to the ditch companies.

How much water is 360″?
20″ = 1 acre foot (acre of land covered in one foot of water)
Also = 325851 gallons

Requirements to run water within the association
The ditch companies require a minimum of 24 hours of water which is equal to 40″. Most of the time, not single user has sufficient water rights to meet this minimum. That requires working with neighbors on the same headgate to meet the 24 minimum.

How do you calculate available water each year?
To get the most out of our water, we allocate all the water across properties that have paid as user prior to the payment deadline. Only properties paid as user for the season are able to get water. We pool the available water and divide it proportionally across all users on that water source. This means users always get more water than the base allocation
Non-Users don’t have access to water for the season.

Can I get more water than I’m allocated from Hohnholz?
YES! The ditch system in Colorado has many options for transferring water and for renting additional water for the season. CB-T water is one of the upstream sources that can be delivered to our area. Another option is to purchase water rights that are deliverable via our system. Third option is using ‘river water’.
You must still pay as user to get rental water delivered, the payments are to maintain the local delivery system.

What is River Water?
River water is available in certain situations during spring runoff at the first part of the watering season (May-June typically). Each ditch provider has different rules for river water so the rules that apply to each property is based on the location.
– Supply declares river water is running and you have free access to river water
– Highland requires that you run water using your allocation. If river water is available that day, they will refund some amount of water back into our account for re-use later. If no river water is available that day, the water run will be deducted from the account.

Why do I have to pay dues when my property has no plans to use water?
The dues are not to pay for water allocation, they are for maintaining the delivery system of channels and ditches from the reservoir to our neighborhod. These are required regardless of taking water each year. Failure to pay for 3 years means our water could be considered abandoned and the ditch company may choose to sell our water shares to another person.

When is the water available?
This varies each year because of snow melt. Generally starting in mid May and running until end of July each season.

How is the Supply and Highland water allocated for properties within Hohnholz Association
Each property is allocated 1 share of Hohnholz for each acre of property size. The location of the property determines the water source that is able to be delivered. The collection of properties on one delivery system (Highland or Supply) split the water proportionally based on Hohnholz shares allocated.
